Bappy's Spice Cookies

Bappy's (Spice) Cookies
	6 oz    Shortening or butter   1 cup    sugar   1 each    egg   1/4 cup    molasses or treacle   2 cups    flour   2 tsp    baking soda   1/4 tsp    salt   1 tsp    cinnamon   3/4 tsp    ground cloves   3/4 tsp    ground ginger     Confectioner's sugar or icing sugar     1 Preheat oven to 350F/180C (160C fan assisted)/gas mark 4 2 Cream sugar and butter well with electric mixer. 3 Sift dry ingredients and add to creamed butter and sugar. 4 Drop pieces the size of a walnut onto a greased cookie sheet about 2" apart. 5 Bake for 10 - 12 minutes 6 Allow cookies to cool on sheet for about a minute or two (so that they retain their shape better) before removing with a spatula and placing upside down on a cake rack. Put confectionery sugar (icing sugar) in a sifter. Turn cookies over and sprinkle tops with sugar.
